2025 came and went, and it went as quickly for us as it did for many of you! We loved seeing you all at our pop-up events, around the community, at the Fort Atkinson Farmer's Market, and we're ready to tackle the new year.
This year we are putting down roots.
Just before the holidays, during Fort Atkinson’s downtown Cocoa Crawl, we spotted a charming little storefront on Main Street—a space waiting for new life. It felt like the final piece clicking into place.
We’ve found our home.
A place for books and art.
For author visits and book clubs.
For readers of all ages to gather, discover, and connect.
Tattooed Tree Books is ready to plant its roots—right in the heart of a vibrant community, alongside other small businesses, and with your help, we’re almost there.
As of 1/9/2026, with the help of regional artists and artisans, we have brought you a line of backer rewards through Kickstarter to reach our final Starter Funding Goal.
Please check out our project, back us if you can, share the news, and
we are so very excited to see you when we open our doors in the Spring in downtown Fort Atkinson, WI!

It's story time, folks, gather round!
Follow me back to the year 2016.
Stranger Things season one made it's debut, Brangelina broke apart, and Tiktok did not exist (okay it was in development but no one around here knew that).
The king of social media was still Facebook, and in grand Facebook fashion, memes were rampant. One crisp autumn evening we were sitting around and talking and one particular meme cropped up, a few words and nothing more:
"Describe your hobby badly".
While I have many, reading was always top of the list amongst all hobbies, and we decided reading was "Staring at pieces of tattooed trees and hallucinating", and an off the cuff quip was made- if I ever opened a bookstore, that was the perfect name.
Fast forward to July 2024 when "Well... maybe it IS time to open a bookstore?" was uttered in my home, and the rest is history.
